The latest version of the venerable Peugeot Speedfight scooter appeared at the end of 2017. After two decades, it’s still a stylish and sporty-looking choice. And it’s more economical than ever. Plus it’s reasonably priced given the brand support Peugeot can offer. But if you want something that looks a bit more special, there’s now the Touring Car inspired 2018 Peugeot Speedfight 125 R-CUP.
It turns out the French company makes cars as well as scooters. Although they started in 1810 as a family firm in 1810 making coffee mills and bicycles before embracing the internal combustion engine at the end of the 19th Century. And they’re not bad at racing cars, winning the World Rally Championship, Dakar Rally, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans multiple times. So the Touring Car inspired 2018 Peugeot Speedfight 125 R-CUP gets a paint scheme based on the cars competing in the Peugeot 308 Racing Cup series. Hence the name.
Underneath the paint job is the same 2018 Peugeot Speedfight 125i. So you get the most powerful and most economical Speedfight scooter yet. That’s due to the latest SmartMotion liquid cooled engine benefitting from both single indirect fuel injection, and Alternative Current Generator (ACG) management. The result is potentially achieving a frugal 134mpg.
It’s also got the latest tech for the brakes, with the synchronised front and rear discs applied when you use the left lever. And additional stopping power added if you also use the right-hand lever as well. Plus a digital backlit LED dashboard, a USB socket, and the reassurance of a 24-month factory warranty.
The Touring Car inspired 2018 Peugeot Speedfight 125 R-CUP will cost you £2699 on the road. That includes manufacturer delivery, a pre-delivery inspection, petrol, number plate, and 20% VAT. It doesn’t include the Government first registration fee and vehicle excise duty. And it makes the R-CUP £100 more expensive than the standard 2018 Speedfight 125. So ultimately it comes down to whether or not you rate the special paint worth the slight price increase or not.
