We’ve all been there. You’ve ridden all day to visit a bike show or watch some racing. Or you’ve headed into town. And due to the fact it’s tipping down with rain, you either end up with a wet head, or walking around with your helmet on. Then there’s the always odd-looking approach of balancing your crash helmet on top of your head. Well, the new Buffalo Rebel Motorcycle Jacket with detachable hood is one way to solve that problem.
You’ll notice the Buffalo Rebel has a fleece-lined hood with a pull-cord to keep it snug. It’s attached with a zip on the collar when you’ve parked up. Or if you want to look like one of those hoodie-wearing scooter riders by trying to fit it over your helmet. Which is fine if you have a max speed of 30mph, but a recipe for disaster as you get faster.
Ignoring the hood for a moment, the Buffalo Rebel still needs to work as a motorcycle jacket. So it’s a textile 600-denier coat with a fixed windproof, waterproof and breathable lining. But you do get a removable thermal quilted liner for when it’s cold. And in addition to taking the thermal lining out when it’s hot, you can also open up the Air-Pro zipped vents on the cuffs and shoulders.
Even at a fairly low price point, the Buffalo Rebel Motorcycle Jacket with detachable hood has CE-approved protectors at the shoulders and elbows. But you don’t get a back protector. What you do also get are two external pockets, an internal pocket, and an eight-inch trouser-connection zip. Which means you can avoid getting wind and rain at the bottom of your back as long as you have some compatible textile trousers.
And that’s about the lot for the Buffalo Rebel Motorcycle Jacket with detachable hood. It’s an entry-level motorcycle jacket with a price to match that looks OK, and has some reasonable protection. But the main way it’s different is that attachable hood. So it’s really a question of whether that’s more of a selling point than carrying a hat around with you. You’ll have to supply your own wall to lean against looking moody.
The Buffalo Rebel motorcycle jacket with detachable hood is available in sizes S-5XL in Black, with Red and White highlights, and costs £89.99.
