We don’t often share crash videos. Mainly because it’s never pleasant to see people get hurt. But sometimes it’s worth illustrating why mistakes might happen if it helps people become safer riders. So just watch this motorcyclist survive a 250ft cliff drop crash.
Fortunately 27-year-old American rider Matthew Murray survived the crash on a road in the Santa Monica mountains in California. And was able to crawl back up to the road and flag down a driver to alert the emergency services.
Sadly his Yamaha MT-10 probably wasn’t so fortunate.
If you ignore the typically bombastic American voiceover, you’ll notice he left the Tarmac at around 48mph, and appears to have slowed down too late for the bend, positioned himself badly, and then had target fixation on the edge of the road. And over the last 20 or so years, I’ve certainly managed to do each one of those at times, but thankfully not halfway up a mountain.
Thankfully Murrary is making a recovery. He’s said he’ll never get back on a motorcycle again, which is probably a good thing. Particularly for Yamaha MT-10s in the California area.
