It’s hard to escape the popularity of traditional wax cotton motorcycle jackets. The blend of country gentleman, British spy, and Steve McQueen in the ISDE has seen them popular with distinguished motorcyclists and posers alike. But the new Knox Leonard Wax Jacket Mk 2 will prove you’re as much a bike rider as a fashionable man about town.
That doesn’t mean the Leonard doesn’t look good – you can make up your mind about that in the pictures. But it’s also designed with practical and safe motorcycling riding in mind.
First up – a 10K high performance waterproof and breathable membrane, laminated to the wax cotton with fully taped seams and YKK Aquaguard zips.
So that should keep you pretty dry. You also get a ribbed collar and cuffs, plus a throat guard – all of which can be removed in the summer. And there’s more flexibility with the Knox dual fit zip system which means you can increase the fit in the arms and body – slipping a Knox armoured shirt underneath. And also proving space for base and mid-layers to keep you cosy. In addition to the cotton interior lining on the body and taffeta in the sleeves.
There’s more adjustment available with the cuffs and waist belt secured with poppers, and a concealed interior elasticated draw cord. If you worry enough people won’t see you, there are discrete underarm loops to attach reflective arm bands as well.
You can make up your own mind about the looks of the Knox Leonard Wax Jacket Mk 2. What’s interesting is that it’s pretty inexpensive at £249.99. You get the choice of sizes S-3XL, but you’ll have to stick with Russet Brown. And obviously the Knox armoured shirts etc are all extra. But you could certainly pay more for a wax cotton jacket with less benefits when you’re actually on your bike.
